Why I Chose Webflow Over Other CMSs

And why I’m sticking with it

Pretty sites got me hooked. Performance kept me loyal.

When I worked fully remote as a front-end engineer in a digital agency, I had a thing for beautiful websites—especially ones with smooth animations and tiny, clever interactions. The kind that make users feel something without even noticing why.

That obsession took me to the Awwwards Conference in Amsterdam, covered by my company through my annual learning budget (yes, I always used it to the max).

What’s Awwwards?
Awwwards is basically the Oscars of web design - celebrating websites that blend creativity, UX, performance, and innovation. It’s where designers, developers, and no-code toolmakers show off their best work.

And it was there that I kept hearing one name: Webflow.

Most of the top award-winning no-code websites weren’t built on Wix or Squarespace or WordPress. They were built on Webflow. And once I looked into it, I understood why.

What makes Webflow different?

Webflow is powerful in a way most website builders aren’t.

  • You can customize everything. Whether you start from scratch or with a template, you’re never locked into rigid layouts or limited widgets.
  • Animations? Wildly good. Especially since Webflow acquired GSAP, one of the most respected JavaScript animation libraries. That means buttery-smooth scroll effects, transitions, and interactions—without writing code.
  • SEO is built-in. From clean code output to customizable meta titles, alt text, and open graph settings, Webflow gives you the tools to rank well without relying on plug-ins.
  • It’s fast. Like, Google PageSpeed still gives you 90+ even after you load it with high-res images and animations.
Below you see a screenshot of Google PageSpeed screenshot result for a Villa in Sri Lanka project to prove it:

And Webflow Hosting? Seamless.

Unlike WordPress or other CMSs where you wrestle with cPanel, server errors, or plugin conflicts, Webflow handles the hosting. I just connect my client’s domain and… that’s it. The rest runs on Webflow’s infrastructure: fast, stable, secure.

No backups to set up, no random PHP updates breaking things.

Real-world results

Villa in Sri Lanka: Based on the Mason Manor template, highly customized, and lightning-fast.
Armplast: A Lithuanian boat manufacturer that now has a clean, responsive site. I trained the team once, and now they update the CMS themselves.
Leverana: A logistics company where I used Webflow component libraries for structure, speed, and adaptability.

Even clients with zero tech background feel confident editing their own content once I show them how the CMS works. That’s a win - for them, and for me.

So why not use Wix, Squarespace, or Framer?

They’re fine. Great, even - for very simple, personal projects.
But if your brand cares about first impressions, performance, and flexibility, Webflow gives you more room to grow.

Framer’s catching up. Wix Studio is making noise. But I prefer to go deep with one tool - and do it well.

The downside? Yes, there’s one.

Webflow has a learning curve.
It’s not something you open and instantly “get” if you’ve never touched layout systems or classes before. But that’s also what makes it so good.

Because if you do know what you’re doing (or hire someone who does), you can build something clean, fast, and genuinely professional.

That’s where I come in.

My approach

I work with small businesses and women-led startups to build Webflow websites that look good and work even better.

Sometimes I start from a template, like I did for Armplast.
Sometimes I use component libraries, like in Leverana.
Sometimes I go full custom.
But always, the goal is the same:
→ clarity
→ conversion
→ control for the client after handoff

TL;DR: Webflow wins for me because…

✓  It’s highly customizable
✓  It supports stunning animations (GSAP ftw)
✓  Hosting is handled
✓  Sites stay fast and SEO-ready
✓  Clients can use the CMS with minimal training
✓  I can specialize in one tool and keep getting better at it
